return to Jazz at the Station

Tonight (Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021) we return to the grand lobby of Union Station here in Ogden to play Jazz at the Station. We love the venue and the vibe here, a giant room where the sound seems to hang in the space forever and the fun Ogden tradition of monthly jazz music that we’re honored to be a part of.

Here’s the details promoted by Jazz at the Station’s Facebook page. Or, if you just write stuff down in the old fashioned way: 7:00 – 8:00 PM, Ogden’s Union Station; free, all ages. If you haven’t been before, it’s an easy way to take in music without staying up too late or forking out a lot of money — although tips for the band and donations to the Station program are always welcome!

Union Station at night

This is kind of a big deal, and not just because we’ve invited a special guest to sit in with us. The last time we played live at the station was March 11, 2020, and while we were playing there were big developments with Covid-19 outbreaks suddenly hitting home. The next night public venues were no longer open to events, schools would close a few days later, and life as we knew it was suddenly upended. But in that moment of an hour we were playing music and having a really, really good time. Now we look back on that as the “before” time. It will be really good to be back in that space.

This also kind of marks the end of our summer season. After a long list of gigs we’re now wrapping up the calendar that had looked so full for so long. Now we’ll start re-booting, working on other projects and collecting new gigs for the winter. Stay tuned; or, better yet, let us know if we can play your wedding or new years event or spring festival.

outdoors

We’ve got two gigs practically back-to-back this week, both outside!

Today, Saturday, Sept. 25, we get to return to Brigham City’s Farmers Market to help them close out their season. We’re looking forward to hanging out under the big shade tree on a perfect first weekend of fall.

And Tuesday, Sept. 28, we return to UTOG to play out on their patio from 6-8p. When we’ve played there before we’ve really like the setup and the sound. It doesn’t hurt that people can sit on patio tables and drink beer.

“local jazzy favorites”

Our gig calendar has been packed lately, ranging from guest spots on our favorite podcast to a big gala to late-night bars gigs. Tomorrow we happen to be playing two different gigs–five hours of music!–including the Monarch Market that gave us this quick plug in the local paper. We’re promoted as “local jazzy favorites,” a description we quite like.

You can find us there playing in the open spaces between artists and vendors from 11:30a – 1:30p (free, all ages). Then, later on Saturday night, catch us on the stage at the Lighthouse Lounge (21+, $5 cover) from 9:00p – Midnight+. Your local jazzy favorites will be happy to see you at either–or both!

Ogden Pride

We had a really fun time playing Ogden Pride. We enjoyed everything from the love, joy, and rainbows all around the festival to our deluxe green room backstage.

But our favorite part was being onstage for an hour, playing songs about the blue skies and love.

Thanks to Mark Seawell for the photo! Ian is back there at the drums, we promise.

It was especially great as we looked out to see people singing along, knowing all the words, even all the verses of Come Together and I Will Survive. I swear I even saw someone singing along to Blue Skies, one of our more obscure jazz standards. We didn’t think it could get any better until we looked up to see the dancing:

Thanks to Karyn Johnston for capturing this.

Already looking forward to playing at the Ogden Amphitheater and for Ogden Pride again!
