standards & substandards

With roots in jazz and branches reaching into everything else, Standards & Substandards reinvents the American songbook. We’re an improvisational quartet (vocals, piano, bass, drums) that loves playing whimsical recreations, interesting blends of genres, classic jazz standards, or ironic twists on simple tunes. We’ll just as happily perform an upbeat jazz standard as a bluesy torch song, and we’ll blur traditions of funk, pop, rock, and blues as the spirit moves us. In short, we love playing music as we’ve reimagined it, our charismatic vocalist/diva and creative instrumentalists having a good time on a stage or in your backyard.
